AN INTERVIEW WITH SABRINA BEN SALMI

Updated: Jul 10, 2023

Sabrina Ben Salmi, you are the mother of the year award and ranked number 2 most inspirational black woman in the UK. You are a publisher, parent, and transformational mentor. You are also someone I very much admire.

What is the secret of your success? Is there a particular event in your life that has made you successful?

I guess a secret to my success is connected to my spiritual relationship with God. I don’t do anything without seeking counsel. I learned a long time ago that when I choose to surrender to the process the outcome is always so much greater Thana I could possibly imagine. I recall a significant time in my childhood when I felt lost and all alone and that was the moment that I deepened my relationship with God from that day I have always leaned on God for all areas of my life. Also being able to connect with others from a place of pure love is the difference that made the difference. Always remember that “We Are All Connected!” Trust your highest thought, your clearest words and your grandest feeling. Your highest thought is always the thought which makes you feel good. Your clearest words are the words which contain truth and honesty. Your grandest feeling is LOVE.

How would you describe Sabrina in three words?

Visionary, Playful and Connected

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of being a mother and for being able to love others even if they’ve not chosen to be loving in return. I am proud of myself for being able to turn lemons into lemonade.

You are the author of “Lone Parenthood – You are Enough”. This book is a great source of strength and motivation for parents. What is the key message you would like to transmit to young mothers?

I wrote this book at a time in my life when I realised that I was living my life for everyone else except for myself. It was a time when I chose to re-insert myself. The core message in the book is ‘YOU ARE ENOUGH’. There are often times in life when we may feel unworthy and not enough and in this book, I share techniques that helped me to fully accept myself and accept that I was enough and that realisation inspired me to share it with others too.

You have a lovely family, and it is quite remarkable how involved all of your children are in a wide variety of activities and how they are making a difference in the world. What advice would you give to other young leaders who would like to make a difference in the world; no matter how big or small this difference might be?

Thank you so much for your kind words. My advice would be to give yourself permission to exercise your muscles in your chosen area of interest. Get to know your strengths and weaknesses and then immerse yourself into that specific area be that mentors, coaches, memberships, masterminds, networking events, books, or videos and create opportunities for you to gain time doing that which makes your heart sing.

Mental health can be difficult to prioritize, with almost one in five people currently coping with a mental illness according to the National Mental Health Institute. What advice would you give to people to boost mental health?

As humans we are social creators therefore having a network of support to turn to in a professional and personal capacity is key. Spend time in nature, read and create opportunities for you to talk and express what makes you feel happy and sad etc. Be honest with yourself about the emotions that you’re experiencing and seek professional support should you need to do so. Find what makes you happy and brings you joy. Help others and perform random acts of kindness daily. Walk barefoot in nature and drink a healthy intake of water. Review your diet and adjectives where necessary. Take vitamins and minerals that are needed for your body can gain what it needs daily. Practice gratitude and affirmations daily. Spend time with people who make you feel good.
